December 2015 –
The year is drawing to a close already; it seems to have flown by so quickly and yet simultaneously to have been so full, challenging, rewarding and expanding ..
Our year is ending with a drought – The Garden is dry and the river lower than we have ever seen it. Every day, Angus uses our available water to keep the fruit trees, veggies and newly-established trees as wet as possible, but it’s not enough. We have become so conscious of the gift of water, the gift of rain, so often taken for granted (or even resented, if it comes at an inconvenient time for us!) yet so essential for all life on earth and to nourish the plants that in turn nourish us.
We often comment that when you come to The Garden, you experience nature as she is – hot, cold, windy, dry, muddy, dusty …. Living in harmony with nature means accepting that, not attempting to control it …. I remember some years ago attending a retreat and asking how to let go of the fear of letting go; the Swami answered me beautifully: “It’s easy! Just try – try to control everything, and you will soon see that you cannot!” Here we seek rather to enjoy and appreciate the beauty in each of nature’s moods – and the many lessons she teaches us. It is actually amazing to see how trees are surviving despite the lack of rain.
We have been working so hard all year and (drought aside!) The Garden is really looking beautiful now. As we head into a 3-week break with family, we are feeling exhausted but excited about sharing it with many more of you next year.
Our New Year Opening Event will take place on Sunday January 31st with Wendy from Wise Living. The all-day event includes yoga, yoga nidra, walking meditation, dedication to The Garden, free time for New Year intention setting, walking the labyrinth, relaxing/journalling by the river and in the meditation gardens, or enjoying tea on the tea deck. Vegetarian lunch, fresh juices and herbal teas will be served. Please contact me to book your spot at this very special occasion! – limited spaces available!
In February, we will be open every weekend from 10am – 4pm for lunch, juice and teas – please call or email to pre-book your tables. We have another special event on Sunday 7th February – a parent/child yoga class with Jessica from Young Yogis, followed by a labyrinth walk for mums/dads and children, after which families are welcome to have some lunch, juice or teas in the teahouse. In the day-to-day busy-ness of parenting, we often seem to lack time and space to connect deeply with our children; this event promises the opportunity to do so through quality shared time and fun in nature. We also have a shared labyrinth walk on Sunday 21st Feb – for those would like to hear a short introduction to the labyrinth and enjoy walking the labyrinth as a group. Please contact me for more details on both and to book.
Wishing you all a peaceful and blessed Christmas and New Year break!
